I got an email earlier today from Bob Stewart, Active Rain, congratulating me on my mentioin in a new Washington Post article and thanking me for mentioning Active Rain, too.
I had almost forgotten about the interview for the article. Last weekend I headed off to Savannah, Georgia to meet my college girlfriends. Waiting for them to arrive, I made myself comfortable on a bench in front of the fountain in Forsyth Park (the one in the picture to the right which I took while sitting there). As I enjoyed the sunshine, I received a call from a real estate reporter, Kenneth Harney, who had seen my hit blog from last week, Buyers are Babies! We chatted for a while and I shared with him some of the experiences that had led me to write that post. We concluded our conversation, my friends showed up and I almost forgot about it.
The article, Picky first-time buyers losing out on great housing deals, showed up today on Washingtonpost.com.This is a perfect example of the kind of exposure that ActiveRain can bring to us as we participate in blogging and commenting here in the 'Rain. Mr. Harney saw my blog, it sparked his interest and he called me to chat!
If you are feeling discouraged, like you are not quite getting this blogging thing, just remember that it doesn't happen over night. One day, you will have a topic that just screams out to you to be written. You will write it up (probably quickly), post it and maybe be interviewed for a National paper!
I always remind myself, what is the best publicity? FREE PUBLICITY! Active Rain comes through again!
