I read several sad posts yesterday ... one member had lost their Mother and another posted about a friend who has just lost a child.  Both of these posts made me stop and think about my situation.  I have learned from personal experience that the most important thing in my life is my family, but I like others I am sure, get wrapped up in business sometimes and don't "schedule" family time.

Calendar

How funny, but terribly sad, the most important thing in my life and I don't schedule it in.  What a huge mistake, from now on my calendar will contain family time just like any other important appointment.

If one of the million and one requests I receive for my time and attention conflict with my scheduled family time, then I very honestly can say I already have an important previous appointment scheduled for that time period that cannot be changed and whoever needs my attention will need to pick another time.

Family is the one thing in your life that can never be replaced.  Very seldom will you ever hear anyone express regret that they spent too much time with their family, but you will hear much regret that too much time was spent on other endeavors instead of family.

Such an important reminder!  Of course, the everyday time that you give to your family is the most important -- but I decided a couple years ago that I wasn't going to let a school holiday go by without doing something special as a family.  My oldest child only has a few "spring breaks" left before college, and I want to make the most of that kind of time.

Too true, it really is all about family, and each day could be the last opportunity to spend time with them.  Nothing is for sure.

Very true. We spend a lot of time worrying about nothing . . .

Suzanne, you hit it right on the nail.  This is something I have to become better at.  I actually am a step ahead of you.  I have a new scheduled starting this Sunday and I used the Google calendar to set it up.  I've blocked out every day of the week, Monday through Friday, from 4pm on to not take any further appointments or drive any body anywhere.  Now I have an even more important reason not to slide away from this all too important time with family ..... my eyes are not as good as they used to be and driving in the dark for me is getting harder and harder for me to do.  I had to go out tonight and it was raining and really dark.  So the pavement glittered back the rain and the headlights seemed especially bright to me in the dark.  I know I can't drive after dark any more and that just happens to be the very same time of the day that I have designated as "family time".  Thanks for writing bout this.  Well needed for me.  :)

Suzanne--I held my breath as I started to read your post.  Now I can breathe knowing that you & your family are okay.  I missed the posts you referred to, but I will keep them in my prayers.  Early in my career I did the same thing even middle of the day if my daughter needed a ride or had doctor appt.

Thanks for contributing to Do Not Worry ~ Today

Suzanne,

Great post!!!  Our family really does have to be number one.  They are the most important and time does slip away so fast.  Thanks for the great reminder...  that nothing is more important then our loved ones and making time for them makes our lives richer and better!!!

Suzanne: What a beautifully written reminder. I agree with you, and I too am guilty of not giving enough time to family. Thank you again for the reminder.
