One of the first signs of spring at Longwood Gardens

In Maryland, we welcome the sight of daffodils as a sure sign of spring. I took this picture while visiting Orchid Extravaganza in the Conservatory at Longwood Gardens in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. I'm hoping to see many daffodils in Kentlands as the weather warms up in Gaithersburg, MD.

Please share your photographs in the comments for this post.

Roy and Dolores Kelley visited Longwood Gardens on Saturday, February 12. 2011 to see the Orchid Extravaganza in the Conservatory. A wonderful world class exhibit. Canon PowerShot G11 camera. Love, Love, LOVE this!  Blue hydrangeas are my favorite (they remind my of my grandmother's garden) and they make a great backdrop for that perfect daffodil.  I wish I could take photos like that!

Thanks, Ann. You are correct. Most of the time we do not find background flowers in blue.

Hi Roy - In Connecticut we have many daffodil festivals.  I just hope that it is possible for the poor things to make it up out of the ground!

Roy,

I love daffodils... and the color combination is exquisite!!!  These colors of yellow, white, and blue are the colors in my kitchen.  They brighten up my morning even if the weather is less then sunny.  Your photo brighten up my day... thanks!

Good morning to all. We have a rainy day in Maryland and it is a good time to take our thoughts to the flowers of spring.

Life is very good when there are daffodils to photograph.

Thanks, Steve. We have a very rainy day in Maryland. Hopefully, the moisture will help the daffodils as they seek an early spring appearance.

I hope you don’t mind that I’ve been camping out in your blog looking at all the beautiful pictures. Here’s one that I took a couple of days ago of some irises, which we don't see very often here:
