Brookside Gardens Spring Exhibit

The Conservatory at Brookside Gardens in the Wheaton Regional Park is a very good place to visit on a rainy day in March. I stopped by to take a few pictures on Friday afternoon after attending the Roundtable of the Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County, MD which was held a the visitors center.

I visited Brookside Gardens on Friday, March 4, 2011 to attend the Affordable Housing Conference of Montgomery County Roundtable. After the meetings, I visited the Conservatory to see the Spring Exhibit. Canon PowerShot G11 camera. Photographs by Roy Kelley.

It has been a cloudy day here in Southwest Florida with occasional showers. Got to your post, saw the pictures and the sun came out. Must be the mystical power of pictures. Enjoy the day!

Roy, Nice to tie in a visit to photograph flowers after a conference about affordable housing.  I'd imagine both were good!

Have a great day!

Hi Roy, do you photograph other things as well? Flowers can be so alluring. I actually took a class in how to photograph them. Seems that the stem and underside, side view and at horizontal eye level are photographer's favorite captures. I had never thought of those positions before but suspect you probably have.

Good afternoon William and Patricia. I've not had the advantage of taking a class on flower photography. I welcome any tips. Yes, I take pictures of other things as well. Flowers tend to me my favorite subjects. Friends tend to respond more positively to flower pictures than the others I take.

Life is better when there are flowers to photograph.

Hi Roy - That first photo looks like a cross between an hibiscus and a venus flytrap!  Where did it get those teeth?  Oh, I have a tip for you when it comes to photographing flowers:  Keep doing exactly what you are doing!

Roy,

The Conservatory would be a great place to stop after a roundtable meeting.  It's such a beautiful place and it seems so peaceful there.  My problem would be I wouldn't want to leave once I got there.  Several trips would be in order.  Thanks so much for sharing this part of Maryland with us!!!

I used to visit there as a kid with my family all the time, but we moved away.  I got to head back to Wheaton Park this last year and it was just as magical as when I was a child.  Thanks so much for sharing, your photographs are so beautiful.

You seem to have various gardens there like we have wildlife sanctuaries here. The flower in the first picture is interesting.

Hi Jim. Yes we are fortunate to have some very nice gardens in the area. Brookside Gardens is one of the nearby locations we enjoy for many exhibits.
