As one of America's original cities, Hartford was founded in the early 1600's, and later established by Reverend Thomas Hooker in 1636. The Wadsworth Atheneum is the United States' first public museum, and is one of the historical features of Hartford. Another historical landmark is the Mark Twain House where some of Twain's most infamous works were composed: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, and A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (shown to the left). Another famous literary figure that resided in Hartford was Harriet Beecher Stowe.
Hartford not only has roots in the nation's history, but it's also known as the "Nation's Insurance Capitol". Major companies such as Aetna, The Hartford Financial Services Group, Phoenix, and Travelers are headquartered here in Hartford! Rentschler Field is also located about 10 minutes from the center of Hartford, and is where the Division I UConn Husky's house their football team. Hartford also has a home for the World Tennis Team (The Hartford FoxForce), rugby (Hartford Wanderers), and the nationally known Rock Cats (AA Easter League affiliate of the Minnesota Twins)!
