THE CHEAP S.O.B. ONLY GAVE ME A BAG LICORICE ...THEN DRANK MY WINE.

Last Summer I listed and Sold a Rockland Ave Condo in Fairfield Victoria, BC. When I listed the Rockland Condo, I asked the Seller why she had picked me over the Realtor who Sold  her Condo to her several years before??....

Cheap Gift Example Fred CarverYou'll laugh..."Because the Guy was a Cheap SOB, he came over the day I moved in with a with a bag of licorice...then drank half the bottle of wine my Daughter brought over"

This lady had not forgotten the cheap gift her previous Realtor gave her.

MY seller was moving up island to Parksville, BC and I referred her to another Realtor in Parksville BC, Lois Grant. I called Lois and told her the Story..she and I laughed and said what a stupid gift. I said lets do something Special together. Lois agreed and we send our Client out to Dinner to a very nice waterfront restaurant Called The Landing Grill with a $200 Gift certificate and a bottle of nice wine.

The Lady was so Impressed she called the very next day to thank me for the lovely Dinner gift...a few months later she referred her old neighbor to me to List and Sell her Rockland Condo.

Make a statement....No more gift baskets, flowers, chocolates (they love you and hate you after they eat the chocolates...haaa) etc..From now it's going to be something very memorable to my Client.

I like leaving a positive and lasting impression with my clients.

HAVE YOUR BEST YEAR EVER IN 2013 !

Hi Fred - I think the gift I gave recently to an older lady whose home I sold was very much appreciated. She is an avid gardener and so I bought her a really nice small oak barrel/container with lots of different plants and a small fruit bush all packed inside. She was very surprised and happy to receive everything for her new garden.

Some good ideas from all the responses to your post!

Hi David...Listing to our Clients is sooo important. By giving a neat gift at Closing, shows you care about your clients.

Hello Fred~ A bag of licorice?  I've never heard of such a strange closing gift.  I guess that agent made an impression, just not a very good one!  :-)

Hmmm, Fred, is it wrong that you had me at the words "licorice" and "wine"?  :-)

We provide a gift certif to a great restaurant or a community activity, such as the local theatre/playhouse or sporting event or musical event too - a wonderful way to introduce the clients to their new community! Great to see another BC'er on Active Rain!

Hi Fred~ He would have been better off giving NO gift and not drinking any of his wine!  Funny what people choose to remember and how careful we need to be!

Awesome testimonial Fred. My clients alway compliment me on my gifts as being different from what everyone else gets. I usually pick up gift cards for trendy new establishments that encourage my clients to go out and learn about the area they just moved to.

I used to love giving gifts and I still give them but need to start getting the original ideas back.  I enjoy taking clients out, giving nice things but sometimes I scratching my head for good ideas.

Fred, also noticed a double feature day, buy a lottery ticket as well. There was a contest a few months back on closing gifts, and the consensus was that gifts that left impressions were those that the family could put out and see on a regular basis, like a digital frame with candid photos taken of the buying experience. Being remembered for doing a good thing is a great way to get repeat business and orphaned clients are always easy to chase.
