If you are in the market for an oceanfront home on Long Island, I strongly suggest you seriously consider Atlantic Beach, NY. Atlantic Beach, NY is located in the western section of Nassau County, South of JFK Airport. It is a very well kept secret and the perfect location for anyone looking to escape the city in less than an hour. Atlantic Beach is actually a barrier beach and is less than a quarter of a mile wide. The village has it's own boardwalk for jogging, strolling or bicycle riding.
The numerous beach clubs that line the shoreline occupy most of the beachfront property in Atlantic Beach. There is one development located in the area that was the old Capri Beach Club. It is now a gated community called the Water Club. The water club consists of single-family homes and a few of them are located directly on the beach. Many of the other oceanfront homes are located along the stretch that runs parallel to the boardwalk. This street is called Ocean Boulevard and many of the nicest homes in the area are located along this stretch.
The biggest attraction in Atlantic Beach is obviously the beautiful beaches. The beaches in Atlantic Beach are for residents of the village and their guests. There is also beach chair service for residents and the beaches are not very crowded. Other areas on the barrier island have beaches that are open to the public. Long Beach for example has an open policy and anyone who pays an admission fee can visit the beaches. Certain beaches in Long Beach can get extremely busy, especially the ones that are in walking distance from the Long Island Rail Road station in the center of town.
So if your are currently feeling that need to escape, I invite you to either hop on the LIRR from Penn Station or dig that car out of your parking garage and spend a few hours discovering the great beachfront communities of Atlantic Beach, Long Beach, East Atlantic Beach, Lido Beach and Point Lookout. I promise you that you will not be disappointed.
