Does My Butt Look Big...Cause Apparently I'm an Elephant?surviving your serengeti, leadership, success, stefan swanepoel

Yeah, I've been called a lot of things in my life, but an elephant is not one of them.

So I took the "what animal am I?" test, after seeing the Active Rain post regarding Stefan Swanepoel's new book, "Surviving Your Serengeti-7 Skills to Master Business & Life", and an elephant appears to be my animal counterpart- Ha, who knew??

Although I was a bit disturbed and confused at first, I began to understand the reasons behind this, and believe that this rings true.

The elephant is apparently a communicator, and as I look back on comments that I've received from others, particularly over the past 5 years or so, this is a very accurate assessment of my personality and one of my strengths.

If you were also put off by being labled an "Elephant", consider this:

Effective communication has helped me to survive and always land on my feet, because it has allowed me to make and build upon my connection with others, which has been instrumental in achieving success and being presented with the opportunities that have come into my life.

After careful thought, I began to realize that I have used my communication skills to nurture relationships, build rapport, market effectively, network with others, build trust and mutual respect, which is necessary in leading others, and to train, educate and motivate our sales staff. I have been told, numerous times, that I am clear and concise, and that I make everything easy to understand, even when I'm dealing with someone that doesn't have any experience in the subject matter. I take this all as a HUGE compliment and feel blessed to have been given this skill.

I plan to download Stefan's book to my Kindle, so I will understand how I can continue to develop this ability even further, and to understand the personality types that I'm surrounded by, so I can effectively communicate with them, in a way that they will appreciate.

So, yes, while communication doesn't seem to be at the top of the list of required attributes, when it comes to home loan origination or any of the other services that we provide through our company, I do recognize the vital importance of this skill and I'm proud to be an elephant!

Gina, You are the first elephant hat I have met on AR. Most of my friends are crocodiles. Great post.  I downloaded the whole book and all the rest of it is just as good as the first chapters. Have a great week.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for reading my post and commenting! Well, I do believe that I have some crocodile in me too. Although, according to my family, I'm more like a pit bull-badger mix : ) but I don't think those exist in the Serengeti

Hope you have a great week too!!!
