Longest Ski Hat in the World
At least, this is what we believe. At 700+- feet, we feel pretty comfortable with this statement, although we have not been sanctioned (yet) by the Guinness Book of World Records.
According to the Guinness Book of Records official website, the longest knitted hat is held by Germany, for a giant Santa Claus hat 22-feet-long and 49 feet in circumference. But those of us in Sandpoint, Idaho have recently submitted an application for what we claim is truly the world's LONGEST ski hat. Move over Germany.
To show off our VERY long ski hat, Susan Moon wore the hat while approximately 40 fellow real estate agents from Tomlinson Sothebys International Realty supported the 80 pound tail and pranced it around town to kick off the Winter Carnival.
According to press clippings at the Bonner County Historical Society & Museum, the hat was knitted back in 1977, by locals Ginny Woodward and Scott Hadley. It was made using a punch card-operated knitting machine and featured 539 advertising panels of local businesses from around Sandpoint and Bonner County. Only 25 of those businesses remain today. History marches on....and so does the hat.
