Here in our area, probably like yours, local polticos are arguing over how to fix the education system. The sides are petty steady in what they say, either cut spending or increase taxes. Nothing new there.
Here, we have a growing contingent of folks who want to add a little bond measure to our property taxes. No big deal except that where I come from, California, bond after bond keeps getting added to a families budget. In addition, it seems that whenever one bond is about to expire, a new one coincidentally pops up to take its place.
10 bucks a month is no big deal. Yet! Lets examine some numbers though. About $5K per year per student gets spent here, Idaho. When my kids attended a private school, with a far superior education, but an inferior football team, the cost was a bit over $3K per student. A $2K difference. They rcvd. many perks that public kids do not get. We know because we are trying public this year per the kids request. There seems to be a fee for everything which is kinda funny to me.
Yeah its only 10 bucks but what are they doing with the money that I am sending them now? It is time to open their books, figure out where the waste is and cut it.
School is for learning. Having 6 soccer fields, and a beautiful new gym is not included in my book. Having all kinds of para-professional teachers is not necessary. Having 14 maintenance guys at the local high school is not necessary.
Someone needs a professional manager to run things. It is time.
