How Did the Job Interview Go Today?
This post was prompted by Jennifer Prestwich's post titled Need a Little Help with Your Resume? FREE Workshop!
She just happened to make the comment that she remembers the days when she was looking for a job. I know what she meant by that, but then I thought to myself "you're still looking for a job." Not only that, but once you get the job, you want to keep it until the job is done.
Don't we look for a job everyday as we prospect for buyers and sellers. Of course we don't go around handing out resumes as we prospect, but we've got to do something to get them to the table and once we get them there, a resume (in any format paper, electronic, web-based, presentation etc) allows us to hightlight our knowledge, experience, strengths, accomplishments, etc.
No we don't have traditional jobs, but everyday presents a chance for an interview. How well does your light shine? Does your "verbal" resume set you apart from the crowd? Does it create interest and make people want to know more?
Bottom line: We need resumes too. Just because we're self employed doesn't mean squat if we can't summarize what we do. Sometimes Scott's paper version willl work, sometimes internet versions will work, but mostly if you need help with putting one together, you might want to seek out a workshop or resume pro such as the one Jennifer describes.
Good luck on the job hunt.
