The First Lady of Real Estate...part 2
Vera Lucille Koch was born on March 9, 1911 and graduated from High School in 1929, just months before the market crash. Vera got a job selling hats for $10 a week and was greatful to have that job. That is one thing Vera has kept throughout her life, a feeling of greatfulness. In this day and time so many of us tend to take things for granted instead of being greatful. Today, I will be aware of all that's around me and be greatful in all things.
Vera Lucille Koch had been thinking of changing her name for some time. She had been using the name Ebby for years but in 1945 Vera decided to change her name to Ebby Halliday. It was around that same time that a a very good 'hat' client of Ebby's approached her about how to sell her husbands houses. I guess you could say the rest is history.
Ebby Halliday has the 10th largest brokerage in the country. She has over 1600 agents with 4 billion in sales. Ebby is in the Texas Women's Hall of Fame. One accomplishment that she is very proud to have received is the Horatio Alger Award of Distinguished Americans. The Horatio Alger Award strives to motivate and educate young people about economic and personal opportunities afforded them through the American free enterprise. They grant close to $7,000,000 in scholorships annually.
The goal of Ebby's huge birthday celebration tomorrow evening is to raise $1,000,000 for the Horatio Alger Award so that others will benefit.
I'm not sure that I'll ever arise to the level of Ebby Halliday but it's wonderful to have a pioneer like Ebby to look up to and learn from. If you've not had an opportunity to read her book, The First Lady of Real Estate Ebby Halliday by Michael Poss you may want to take time to do so.
Happy Birthday Eve Ebby!!!
