gas prices got your goat?

It seems that every time I turn on the radio these days the dj's are either talking about "winning" with Charlie Sheen or the newly outrageous gas prices. And yes, Charlie Sheen is pretty easy to laugh about these days, but are we freaking out a little too much about paying a few more dollars at the pump? I find it some what amusing that prices going up 3 cents is all of the sudden news worthy. At the end of your fill up it maybe adds up to what... 50 cents more than before? Yes, there has been quite a large increase in a matter of a week in gas prices. But, let's think a little about it in perspective with everything else. For example, local utility prices recently spiked, adding probably an extra $10-$20 dollars on to our bill every month. I didn't hear uproar about that. Also, the cost of going to the movies continues to rise, especially if you want to sit in those fancy new chairs that allow you more of an "experience." Between one couple, that could add about $20-$30 onto your monthly budget if you go the movies twice. Depending on how much you drive, chances are that that price is more than the excess you are paying in gas every month. I also like to think about how much more I would be paying for transportation if I lived in a big city. The costs of the subway, taxis, etc. would all add up to way more than I pay for gas every month to be able to take myself anywhere I want, any time I want. So, yes....gas is getting more expensive. So is the general cost of living. If it is really affecting you, then maybe consider eating out a few less times per month...that should cancel out the difference. Worry about things you can control, not things you can't. In other words, don't sweat the small stuff. :)

I am worried about how the gas prices will affect consumer mindset and eventually the housing market, just like it did last time it climbed up to $4 per gallon. It's gone up way more than three cents in my area, try 50 cents per gallon in the past three months. That means an extra $100 per month for me and $100 for my husband. $200 total per month. That's more than just eating out one less time. We already quit going to the movies a couple years ago unless it's a special occasion.  I'm concerned gas prices will also affect other prices of goods such as food, clothing and etc. I have already been feeling that in my wallet. Tack on another $100 per month for the increase in food prices. My salary has gone down due to price of homes decreasing. Instead of first time buyer purchasing a $100k home they are purchasing a $60k home. That's almost a 50% paycut. I also heard on the radio that gas will climb another dollar per gallon this year and put the U.S. back into another recession. You are correct about the fact we cannot control it and worrying about it will not change anything. We must all choose to keep on keeping on focus on the positive.
