It seems that every time I turn on the radio these days the dj's are either talking about "winning" with Charlie Sheen or the newly outrageous gas prices. And yes, Charlie Sheen is pretty easy to laugh about these days, but are we freaking out a little too much about paying a few more dollars at the pump? I find it some what amusing that prices going up 3 cents is all of the sudden news worthy. At the end of your fill up it maybe adds up to what... 50 cents more than before? Yes, there has been quite a large increase in a matter of a week in gas prices. But, let's think a little about it in perspective with everything else. For example, local utility prices recently spiked, adding probably an extra $10-$20 dollars on to our bill every month. I didn't hear uproar about that. Also, the cost of going to the movies continues to rise, especially if you want to sit in those fancy new chairs that allow you more of an "experience." Between one couple, that could add about $20-$30 onto your monthly budget if you go the movies twice. Depending on how much you drive, chances are that that price is more than the excess you are paying in gas every month. I also like to think about how much more I would be paying for transportation if I lived in a big city. The costs of the subway, taxis, etc. would all add up to way more than I pay for gas every month to be able to take myself anywhere I want, any time I want. So, yes....gas is getting more expensive. So is the general cost of living. If it is really affecting you, then maybe consider eating out a few less times per month...that should cancel out the difference. Worry about things you can control, not things you can't. In other words, don't sweat the small stuff. :)
