This is one of a series titled Please come support the The Chula Vista Nature Center opened an Art Aquatic exhibit this past weekend that brings together tropical water life and handcrafted glassworks by twelve local artists who based their works on the waters and the life therein. This exhibit showcases not only the Chula Vista Nature Center, a hidden gem in the South Bay, but also the work of these local artists. The glassworks will actually be IN the various aquariums, which range in size from 60-gallon cubes to a 328-gallon cylinder aquarium full of silver moony fish. The exhibit will run through September 5, 2011 (Labor Day), at which point the artists will be selling their work. Some of the artists will be donating sale proceeds to the Nature Center. The Chula Vista Nature Center is only 24 years old and, until February 2010, its operations were financed by the city of Chula Vista. With budget cuts everywhere due to the economy, Chula Vista was going to close the Nature Center. Many people stepped forward and provided funding and the Center is now a non-profit entity, so they need our support. If you've never been to the Center, please go. It's in the midst of the saltwater marshes in the South Bay and features over 150 animals and 200 plants that are native to Southern California, including some beautiful bald eagles.
