Historic Homes of Denver: Historic Homes and Buildings - The Historic Keating Mansion

Keating MansionThe Historic Keating Mansion is located at 1207 Pennsylvania St in the Historic Capitol Hill neighborhood of Denver.

Built in 1891 by Jeffery and Mary Keating, the Keating Mansion was one of the last Historic Homes of Denver built before the silver crash of 1893.  Built in the Richardsonian Romanesque style (as many historic mansions in this area are), the Keating Mansion was constructed with rough-dressed sandstone walls.  A steep pitched gabled roof with conical roofs tops and a full rounded bay on the south side of the building plus a round turret on the north end make the Keating Mansion a gorgeous piece of preserved Denver architecture.  Jeffrey Keating built the Keating Mansion as a showcase for it's time.  It features a wide, pillared wrap around porch on the northeast corner of the castle like mansion. The interior of the Keating Mansion was finished in oak paneling with marble fireplaces and stained glass windows.
Pasque Suite
The namesake of the Keating Mansion was Jeffrey Keating, a Denver real estate investor as well as one of Denver's early Lumber barons.  Keating was one of the founders of the McPhee & McGinnity Lumber Company.

Today, you can visit the beautiful Keating Mansion which now serves as the Capitol Hill Mansion Bed and Breakfast Inn.  There are 8 period rooms and suites that are furnished in a period correct turn of the century style.  Some guest rooms are built into the turret and others feature wall murals and canopy beds.  Guests of the Capitol Hill Mansion Bed and Breakfast Inn at the Keating Mansion can look forward to fresh flowers and plants in the guest rooms, a full hot breakfast in the morning and wine in the evening.
