Any Vista Know-It-Alls Out There?

I can't believe I'm doing this.  I'm 24 years old, and from that "younger generation" that knows "everything about computers".  I never have a problem figuring something out for myself on these things.

Until I got Vista.

I have a wireless network at home, and that isn't a problem.  We have a wired network here at the office, and I have a minor problem that I can't seem to fix.

We have a HP printer that we all share on the network.  I have hooked up to it, and everything was fine until a tech came in to install our Canon laser on my laptop.  He didn't have Vista drivers, so he couldn't do it.  Unfortunately, I got stuck fixing all the things he did.

My problem is that now whenever I disconnect from the network, the office printer (HP) shows up "offline".    When I hook back up to the office network, it remains offline, and I can't seem to figure out how to change it to online!  Now I have dealt with this before in ME and XP and 98, so I thought this wouldn't be a problem.  I even try "Use printer offline" and that doesn't work.  I don't know what else to do, because I can't seem to find the option to change it to online.  So instead I've been stuck deleting and re-installing the printer every day that I'm in the office.

Anyone have a solution for me?

Sincerely,

Hating Vista in Mora.

I have Vista, and can't get my laptop to print on the home network to save my life.  Thank goodness it works at the office, but as for the home, forget it.  I have asked people til I got tired of asking.  Everyone has a different idea, but Vista is just different.  I am not sure why they made it not be more user friendly.  Good luck!!

Jennifer - Is it possible to downgrade?

Missy - I guess it bit me in the butt to get it.  I do see that you can build your own Dell with XP on it still...

Bruce - :(  I hope I can get it figured out!

I still have XP but my husband just got a computer with Vista.  He does web design and needed a faster computer.  He now has to use his old computer (with XP) and the new one because not everything works on Vista.  It gets quite confusing at times for him, but he is getting pretty good at running both!   Good luck with yours!

Roberta - So far the only thing that hasn't worked very well is that printer issue.  It is faster, but not very user friendly!
