Lake Havasu City

The school board at Lake Havasu Unified School District is scheduled to meet at 6pm on Tuesday, March 15 in the boardroom of Building C, 220 Havasupai Blvd to discuss possible changes in the gifted programs.  The schools' gifted teachers will be giving a presentation to the board at the beginning of the meeting.  Any changes to the program will be at a later date.  The program could be scaled back in the second of three rounds of budget cuts.  The district has to cut $1.7 million for the 2011-2012 year after local Lake Havasu voters failed to renew a property tax in the 2010 election.

There will also be a public hearing on possibly changing the dating abuse health curriculum.  However, the director of special services and business planning hasn’t returned an answer on a request for an interview.  The director did send a statement, via email, stating the district’s curriculum on dating abuse lessons.

The state legislature mandated that a public meeting be held to consider adopting a teen dating violence curriculum to help Lake Havasu teens in bad relationships.  Also, the governing board is expected to vote on spending $57,000 in federal grant funds for new technology for reading assistance for students with disabilities.  Information on the meeting or to review the entire agenda, please visit www.havasu.k12.az.us
