 Needham Neighbor Brigade

I received this letter tonight from my neighbor and she asked me to send it to everyone I knew and I thought this is a great way to do that by sharing it with all of you.  Please read the letter.  It is certainly a wonderful brigade.  Please pass it along to those you know too.  It is nice to know that others care and are there for you.  There are some links and information on the websites. Take a look at this and see what you think.  So many already do things but to have a network throughout the community is even better.  How this really suits Needham to a tee because it already such a wonderful caring community. ~ Pat Baker

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Imagine how comforting it would be to know that a network of volunteers in your community is standing by ready to help if a crisis were to strike your family? I’m excited to share with you a new program, Needham Neighbor Brigade, which will soon be coming to our town. Inspired and modeled after the 2002 founding chapter in Wayland, MA, the Needham chapter will be a network of volunteers organized to support Needham residents in time of need. My goal is to build a strong, caring network throughout our community to help our neighbors and friends in times of crisis such as serious illness, injury, major surgery or other tragic event. During difficult times simple acts of generosity can have a profound impact in helping to get life back on track. With volunteers available and willing to help, families can focus on healing and caring for their loved ones. To learn more about Neighbor Brigade visit www.neighborbrigade.org

I hope you will become a volunteer of this “neighbors helping neighbors” community-based network. It provides an easy and flexible way for individuals of any age to get involved and make a difference. After joining there is no pressure or obligation to participate - volunteers can give as little or as much time as they have available. When a new call for help is posted at my secure volunteer site, an email will automatically be sent to all volunteers. Those who have the time to help can sign up within the confines of their own schedules. Having volunteers prepare and deliver meals, grocery shop, run errands, provide transportation for medical appointments, assist with child care or household chores, take care of the family pet or offering a simple act of kindness is worth more than words can say.

If you would like to join Needham Neighbor Brigade all you need is an email address and a willingness to help out now and then. Once you are registered as a volunteer, you will receive emails notifying you when an individual or family is in need or you can check the website at any time to view the upcoming needs in our community. For more information or if you or someone you know needs assistance during a difficult time please contact me at 781.449.1507 or by email at NeedhamMA@neighborbrigade.org

Please spread the word and forward this email to all of your family, friends and neighbors in Needham. The more we can reach out and help our neighbors in need, the more we can make a difference to build a greater community and make our town a richer and better place to live. I hope you can join me in supporting this worthwhile program.

Sincerely,

Jo-Ann Rosen (Chapter Leader - Needham Neighbor Brigade)
