Are Short Sales For You?

I have agents ask me often how I can list and negotiate short sales. I do have "regular" listings, but I love short sales. I feel as if I'm making a difference and helping people in a way that doesn't happen in any other area of real estate for me. The gratitude I receive when the emotional roller coaster is over and the transaction finally closes gives me such a good feeling that stays with me and keeps me coming back for more. I also like to win and so far I've only lost one short sale to foreclosure and that was taking it on after the homeowners were over a year late. It takes determination, perserverence, constant contact with the lenders, and being forced to hone negotiating skills to a level I probably didn't think possible.

Obviously short sales aren't for everyone, but as long as the need is there they will be a big part of my business.

I would like to hear how other people feel about this area of the market.

Short Sales are a major part of the CT real estate market, too.  These listings are challenging, but represent a huge portion of the homes for sale.  I don't see why agents run away from these listings - if managed properly they will close.  Keep fighting the good fight.

Hi, Sandy, I often feel as you do when a short sale listing finally closes. Happy that I'm doing work that is significant. Short sales will be around for awhile.
