Here are 10 low-cost ideas to prep a property for Florida Open House Weekend:
- Clean, clean, clean. Get out the vacuum, the mop, the furniture polish and other cleaning supplies, and apply lots of elbow grease to make your home sparkle inside and out. It makes a difference.
- Make sure the first impression is a good one. Paint the front door, replace worn out light bulbs and make sure the areas that buyers see first are in great shape.
- Tame the landscaping. Mow the grass, trim hedges and trees, weed the walkways and plant new flowers in unkempt window boxes or planters.
- Take care of the little things. Make sure windows open and close, get a new shower curtain and bath mat, replace missing screws in outlet covers – take care of the small details a buyer will notice.
- Get the floors professionally cleaned. Whether the flooring is carpet, tile or hardwood, a professional cleaning job will help bring them back to life.
- Invest in paint. Touch up the areas that need it most. Paint the woodwork – contrasting white woodwork looks fresh and clean.
- Strategically de-personalize. Reduce personal photos and knick-knacks, select accessories like pillows in neutral tones, and eliminate clutter in kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
- Tidy up the bathrooms. Get rid of mildew, re-caulk and replace small missing components, like sink stoppers.
- Clear out storage areas. Clean out the closets, the garage, under the sinks and your kitchen drawers. Pare down to the essentials so that storage areas look roomy and inviting.
- Add a little ambiance. A flower centerpiece on the table, a bowl of fresh fruit on the kitchen counter, or a basket of just-baked cookies straight from the oven add a homey atmosphere.
