5 Comments on Austin Texas School Districts - How are the schools in the Austin area?
Katerina - I didn't realize that you were also homeschoolers! Very cool! We have three kids who are homeschooled (8,6, and 18 months - boy-girl-girl). My wife put together this terrific list. Thanks for your comments on this one. By the way, I was going to invite you guys to check out my new group "Family Ties":

Texas is a big homeschooling state, because it is so easy here. How are things in Florida?
Jason, you must be a new reader of my blog. That is great that you homeschool! Cyndee Haydon and Ashley Drake also homeschool. I homeschooled 5 kids all the way through to college. My youngest of 5 is my daughter who was accepted into Florida Atlantic University, a private Christian University here in our area at the age of 14. She is now 18 and is graduating with a BA in sociology and psychology in 2 more semesters! I now am homeschooling Nestor's and my son we had together, he is 5 years old and is doing all 1st grade work except for reading. As a pure boy he has no interest in reading right now. With him, I am doing a lot of unschooling.
Florida is very home school friendly compared to other states I have lived in. We have more and more people home schooling here because the schools are not good in Florida. I know Texas is more home school friendly in that you get access to a lot more resources. The schools here are supposed to let you on the sports teams, but they don't really. ( use other excuses why you are not picked) in the end it comes down to money. Its always all about the money. The state does not like to lose fed dollars and they do with each student that is withdrawn from public schools. Yet we still pay taxes for the public schools.
Also in Texas you have a lot of ranchers and farmers that home school because the kids live out on the ranches and such. It is not so here in Florida.
The worst place I have home schooled was California, but that is a horror story for another day! Katerina
Katerina - Yes, I am a new reader. I need to look back at some of your older posts to see more about your homeschooling experiences, I suppose. I knew about Ashley, but not Cyndee. Joey Aszterbaum just started homeschooling recently (in California, I might add).
That is awesome that you homeschooled 5 kids all the way through. Your daughter sounds very sharp indeed.
Texas is a terrific place to homeschool, as you mentioned. I don't actually know any ranchers or farmers, honestly. Pretty much everyone we know lives in a normal subdivision.
Thanks for stopping by to comment on my Localism post. I appreciate it. Have a great Sunday and God bless you!
Wow - I am learning new things about you every day!
