Active Rain vs. Move

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Cheryl Johnson, Bob Taylor Properties, Inc., Los Angeles, CA

I'm a nosey busybody.  But everyone already knew that.   I came across this on Inman's blog

"ActiveRain, an online real estate blogging community and social network with about 47,000 members, has filed a lawsuit against property-search giant Move Inc. that seeks millions in damages and alleges that Move broke the law when it backed out of an acquisition plan and launched its own blogging platform."

So far, I haven't come across any other information, and of course, I'm curious.  I'd like to know more.  Any one else know more than the Inman post?

Sounds unfortunate for ActiveRain.  There will be another buyer though.  Move would have been a great fit and it is their (move's loss).  But it seems like they hired Dustin Luther a long time ago to start Move's blogging platform.

John, thank you for the link.  Quite frankly, if Realtor.com purchased Active Rain, I'm not sure I'd want to stick around.

I think I'm with Patricia on that one.  I'm not a fan of either of the other sites.

interesting... Judging from the Inman article, it seems that AR was led to believe that Move was going to acquire it therefore AR disclosed some confidential materials to Move. It's really too bad that this has happened. It's definitely sneaky on Move's part. But I frankly won't blog on Move since it seems that they are more of a realtor-centric platform. Active Rain is growing strong and I doubt Move can diminish that with their copycat platform. But it's definitely something I would want to find out in the long run!

Cheers,

Cindy

I'm sorry to see the Active Rain boys loose out on a potential sale in the millions, but I'm not sure I'd be happy to see Move become the parent company of Active Rain....

Great ideas get copied.  It seems really naive to think that you can create an extremely popular site like this one and expect no one to try to duplicate it.

REALTOR® magazine was writing about Active Rain a year ago.  The folks in Chicago have had their eye on what goes on here for a long time.

CJ,

I definitely agree with that. I like AR as it is. I also understand they gotta pay rent too ;) Hopefully the advertising program will help with that.

Cheers,

Cindy

Go to the Official Active Rain blog, they have scanned the legal documents.  In a nutshell Move.com was going to buy ActiveRain.com but after receiving all the confidential information including all the info on us, pulled out of the deal at the last minute.  Now Move.com is building a new platform based on AR's model and secrets they acquired during the acquition.
