Crash-N-Burn!

By
Managing Real Estate Broker with Flexit Realty "Flexible Home Selling Solutions"

I used to think this "Crash-N-Burn" comment was only related to when I raced motorcycles back when I was young and daredevilish.

Now I know the real meaning of Crash-N-Burn!

You can do all the research you want and still get Burned!  You can select the right agent the right car the right anything and still get Burned!

I have owned 10 laptops over the years at a minimum and this latest purchase was going to be grander than all that I owned before this.  Wrong....it was grander all right.  It was grander all right, it cost me grander.  It caused my temper to be grander.  It cost grander in time and energy.

So here are some grander thoughts. Crash-N-Burn contact www.GaryLWhite.com

  1. Best Buy now loads their software promotions on computers.  I don't want their stuff...I didn't pay for their stuff so don't embed it in my start-up sequence on my laptop!
  2. Best Buy removes the service manuals according to a blogger on the ASUS "gripe site".  I believe them I didn't get a service manual with my unit either.
  3. PC magazine don't tell me something is great if it isn't!  I believe you and use you information as part of my decision making.  The "ASUS G73" i7 processor was supposed to be the next best thing to having an MIT grad sitting in your waiting room if you need engineering advice.  NOT SO!

Crash is what it does.  Burn is what you Do!  I crashed 10 times during software loading, during restarts, lock during normal use...slow processing!  By the end of the first three hours my new laptop was close to being a "Return Bin Item".  I Googled my brand and found a parade of bad news.  My next thought was a nasty gram to PC magazine.  They must have gotten a hand made unit for review...because the poor saps that bought these units were in the same boat as me.  Crash-N-Burn for the norm.

I finally reloaded everything from scratch the whole operating system...everything.  Now it works, but ICrash N Burn with Technologycan share with you....this mild mannered reporter was looking for a phone booth to change into the Devil!  I had some very evil thoughts about the manufacturer and Best Buy.  I will never buy anything from a retailer that loads their advertising on my electronics.  I will only purchase from on-line sources from now on.  I have had very good luck with Amazon by the way. Books, cameras, software all competitively priced with free shipping.

I do not want a retailer to load their advertising on my computer!  Best Buy loads an application you have to go into your add/delete programs to get rid of it.  The program they load is their website.  It is programed to start-up every time you turn on your system.  They have it loaded on your desktop.  It took one minute and they were gone!

Can I give you a hint...I am not a fan of the i7 intel chip.  It is not faster than my old Quad core.  I have more memory in this laptop because I use my laptop like a workstation, I needed more.  You will find that the workstation may become a thing of the past.  Even workplaces will have workers using laptops that connect to their networks while working and offer a mobile option to take the work home and bring back in the morning.

Workstation desks with wireless printer connections is the new standard.

Upgrading your technology?  Read the sites that offer information by actual owners.   Don't believe PC magazine or hot shot that is given a new computer every year.  Believe the people that use the units.

I was so close to buying an apple...but I didn't want to deal with software upgrades...should have bought an Apple!

Thinking of upgrading your technology?

Gary, I am not a techie.  I rely on the wife for all that.  But, I can tell you, I have heard some pretty blue language coming from the office from time to time.  That's when I lie low......

Hi Ron...I didn't say a word while working on this laptop...but it doesn't mean I didn't have those evil thoughts!!!!  I crashed so many times I could have been a test pilot!  Thanks for the comments Ron...I won't tell the wife you shared!

Gary - The salesmen at Best Buy tried to sell me an Asus this summer.  They were so hard sell that I left the store and went to Office Depot and bought an HP.  Looks like I made a good decision.

Hi Pam, I had an HP quad core and wanted the processor muscle of the i7 but that is a myth.  I did the research myself.  So I can blame myself on this one.  But the fact is you can Google the unit and see what users have to say.  I isn't pretty.  Thanks for the comments Pam.

Hi Rob, I didn't consider a Dell because of the componets are never the same.  They buy batches at the best price not based on quality.  So I had that one off the list.  This one had some rave reviews...they lied!  Thanks for the comments Rob.

Gary - simply stated...BUY A MAC! I've been using them for over 10 years without hardware or software failures. I use Apple desktops, laptops, apple "cloud" (.me) accounts and an iPhone. It's amazing how they are all in snyc without any effort on my behalf. They work effortlessly together and allow me to focus on my job....selling homes. The old cliche that you get what you pay for is true once again. MACs are well worth the money. Oh, and once more thing, I work at Coldwell Banker and am not required to use anti-virus protection on my laptop in our office wi-fi. But other PC agents are all required to use it since they are so vulnerable.

Best regards!

Bill

More opinions than you want to hear about.

Wouldn't trade my Dell laser printer for anything, but it's really a re-labeled Brother.  My Dell laptop will be replaced with a Mac as soon as I run out of patience.  My service issues have been equally mishandled by Best Buy's Geeks and the Dell service team in Manila.

We so can't wait to convert to Mac.  We've seen them in action and had we not JUST bought our Toshiba laptops, we probably would have already.  Can't make the switch yet to iPhone from our blackberry's though....but I'm sure that time will probably come LOL!  Next purchase...the iPad!

If apple/mac was the only computer on the face of the earth, I would use an Abacus! Just saying.
