Another significant issue to consider when purchasing land in Albany County is water. We have whole areas in the county with no accessible water. Even if a well is drilled and water is found does not mean the water will be potable (usable).
Some land owners are willing to overlook this and haul water to their land and homes themselves, often storing it in their own underground containers (cisterns). Other land owners are lucky enough to have well water, but the water is unsafe for human and/or animal consumption. In this case they resort to some sort of filtration system, such as a reverse osmosis system.
This homeowner chose to install a whole house reverse osmosis filtration system. As you can see it is not a do it yourself project and consists of several parts that do different jobs. Some people will opt for a filtration system only under the sink for just their drinking water. This homeowner, however, wanted a whole house system so that the plumbing and pipes would also be protected from the corrosive water pumped up by their well.
An advantage of the reverse osmosis system is that it works and tends to work well enough to make a home be considered loan worthy. The major disadvantage is that replacing the filters is quite expensive.
When thinking about buying land in Albany county, it isn't so much what option you choose that matters as much as clearly understanding the reality of finding and using water in the area that you are interested in. Only then can you determine if the available options will work for you.
