366 Comments on My Perfect Closing Gift
Jon, "Old School" dinners still create a solid connection moving forward...
I agree totally with your post. I have shared dinner with clients and the experience was great. When giving gifts, I always try to learn something unique about the clients so that I can give a gift that is well received. For example, one of my recent gifts was a New Orleans Community Coffee Gift Basket for a couple of coffee lovers - they were super delighted with it and me as well.
Jon, this has to be the most awesome gift - you are giving your time and friendship to your clients, spending quality time with them. I would think this is one sure way (in addition to great service!) of gaining "clients for life".
Kristine - but it is still quite egoistical, as I enjoy this evening as much as they are, and this is why it is a win-win situation
David - I did not know this was "Old School", but it would be logical to expect, as it is something tested and proven to work well for most cases
Bill - the point is to create warm feeling and if you reach it, it is great. It should not be one thing for everyone. There are clients who i do not invite. I gauge the situation like everyone else, and I do it if I see that we both would enjoy and benefit from it.
Barbara - it is many things in one, and sometimes I do not expect that I would have any business, and it is still fine, it is our "thank you" to people who are leaving the area, who might not have fond feeling, and may not have anyone they would refer.
I gauge it not by business (whether I can gain business or not), but by people (whether we click or not), and if we click, then we will invite them. Business part is always secondary, or otherwise people will feel that the only purpose you are with them is to get business.
The good part is that at that time I genuinely do not care about business. If it later comes, it is because they wanted to do it, not because I was pushing it in any way even subtle...
OMG...you answered all...I commend you ...I just came back to see if you answered me lol
Celeste - I commend you for coming back. So many people comment, even ask a quqestion, and then never come back.
I survived this challenge because I have readers like you. They help keep the fire in the fireplace.
Thank you
that is an interesting idea! I spend a lot of time and conversation with my clients during a sometimes stressful process. I would be nice to just have a meal together
thanks for your response Jon!
Sandy - just did it last Friday. I am glad I did. We had excellent time together.
W. Waters - my pleasure
Great post! I usually host a housewarming dinner at their home, but this sounds like a better idea. Thanks for sharing.,
Martin - I think it could be more challenging your way. Restaurants are a more neutral and not intimidating. Thank you for your interesting comment
