Ear Muff Day
Ear Muff Day is always on March 13th. Why you ask? On this day March 13, 1877, the United States Patent Office awarded Chester Greenwood patent #188,292 for his invention.
So, Ear Muff Day celebrates a warm invention...the ear muff! Folks in cold climates can really appreciate this day. And, they are ever so thankful to the person who created the ear muff. However, if you are fortunate enough to live in Florida, you might not even know what an ear muff is.
Ear muffs keep your ears warm (DUH) and protect you from ear infections and earaches resulting from icy cold wind and weather. Manufacturers have responded to their popularity with a variety of designs and colors, making one to fit almost every personality.
It is really easy to celebrate Ear Muff Day.... just wear your ear muffs!
So on this day March 13th we offer up a really big “THANK YOU” to Chester Greenwood the father of the earmuff.
Don, I never knew....I did not know about this special day. WOW, I have not seen ear muffs since I was little girl. Oh, well...anything for a holiday.
Growing up in San Antonio I don't recall needing ear muffs but I am sure my memory is a little selective. :-))
Don, thanks for the information.
Chester's brother Lester, invented the "Eye Muffs", but was killed in an auto accident the first day he tried wearing them while driving his car.
LOL
Don, I have a set of earmuffs in my car at all times. Use them mainly in the winter when I'm showing property or listing a home. Sure glad they were invented.
Don...
Wow, I learn something new every day. Now I know that we have an ear-muff day.
Don, I never new this about March 13 or earmuffs. I have a pair of ear muffs and use them when I am outside in the winter especially when I take my dog for a walk.
Hi Don - This winter was prime time ear muff weather. Ted "muffed" that one:)
Conrad,
I am ready for the warmer weather to get here. I will worry about ear muffs next year.
