Today, we had a mini-Bloggers Connect of sorts.  After 3 months on Active Rain, I had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some wonderful Realtors who were complete strangers to me prior to July 2007, but were already good friends before we ever met in person.

Once you leave the designation of newbie behind, pass through the tween stage of blogging, and become an oldie (and believe me this can happen faster than you think), you start to notice the same people commenting on your blogs and then you find yourself commenting on their blogs.  Before you know it you establish connections, subscribe to each other and conciliate true friendships.

The idea to get together was first hatched when Patricia Kennedy and I saw each other turning up in the same corners of Active Rain way back in July and she was the first to tag me with a Meme (see Who?? MeME! for my post; and MyMy! MeMe'd! Yikes! for Patricia's).

Pat's a well-connected veteran D.C. agent who recently published a book entitled "The Irreverent Guide to Real Estate" which she nicely autographed for me today!

It took a while going back and forth until we could finally find a date when we were both free.

Once we agreed upon a day and time, we decided to invite some other local bloggers that we both respected from their writings and comments.  Margaret Woda from Crofton, MD and Cindy Jones from Northern Virginia both accepted the invitation and were available.

Lucky for me!  I was going to lunch with three very lovely ladies and I was the only guy.

I told my wife not to be jealous.  Lest she confuse Active Rain with Match.com...

Margaret kindly offered to drive all the way down from Crofton to meet us in Arlington, VA in the Clarendon area to go to lunch at Harry's Tap Room.  (She did have an ulterior motive -- wanting to shop at Crate & Barrel at Clarendon Commons).

To learn more about the Arlington real estate market and specifically some luxury condos in the Clarendon area, read my award-winning fictitious letter to Paris Hilton urging her to move there.

Lunch was great.  The gazpacho, crab cake, and sorbet desert were excellent.  But more exciting than the food was getting to spend a couple of hours with some very experienced, successful, and friendly Realtors (not to mention being the only guy among three beautiful women!)

Patricia really broke the ice -- smashed it in fact, by telling us about an off-color advertisement some years ago by a pair of D.C. Realtors with an interesting last name.  For the rest of lunch, we discussed this interesting phenomenon of real estate blogging, ideas about Active Rain, some of our personal real estate stories, and some general getting-to-know you conversation.

I felt privileged that these lovely ladies took the time out of their busy schedules today to spend their lunch with me and am truly impressed with each of them -- their business, their character, and their friendship.

Brian - That is very cool.  I know we talked about it on the phone, and it looks like you had a lot of fun.  I need to work on getting something like that going here in Texas.  Maybe Karen Anne and some others?

SALLY:  I hope so!  You know I'd love to visit you there in Hawaii.  It's just not as easy a thing to plan and execute as a 15 minute drive across town.  Don't worry, when we do make it there, I'm sure we'll rock the island!

JASON:  It was cool.  Thanks for commenting -- we all had a great time.  I'm sure you could put something like this together in Texas.  Margaret met up with Karen Anne for dinner while she was in Texas last week.

Brian - did you realize starting on AR that it even comes with lunch and lovely ladies? It sounds like a good movement to spread North -we have lot's of great places to eat in Princeton. And it's only a train ride away.

FAINA: No, I had no idea that AR would include lunch and lovely ladies.  I'd love to go back up to Princeton sometime.  Last time I was there was in college when I watched our team (U.Penn) beat Princeton in a football game -- that would be 1994.

Every time I've met another Rainer in person there's always been an instant rapport. It's great to step away from the monitors once in awhile and add that extra dimension! I'm sure I'll be meeting a lot more when NAR comes here in November.

BRIAN:  This sounds like a fun lunch.  I'll try and plan something up here and report back.  It's a good idea.  I noticed that Sally would like some visitors.  Sally - I think that most people on here probably have their sit-down with you on their to-do list for some point in their lives.  I know that I'd love to see Hawaii, and to have your local expertise available to me while I was there would be very cool.  Someday.  Brian, thanks for reporting back to us on this.  I guess good things can happen when you step away from the computer (LOL).

JOHN:  There was definitely instant rapport yesterday.  It was like long-time friends reuniting.   Yes, every once in a while, we need to step away from the computer.  I won't be making it to the NAR Convention this time around, but may be back out in Vegas for the RE/MAX Convention in '08.  Thanks for your comments.

ADAM:  Thanks for commenting -- it was fun.  You have enough people up there in the NY area that you could definitely plan something.  Sally knows that most of us would visit in a heartbeat.  It's just a matter of getting off the mainland and making the big trip to Hawaii 5-0.

Love it, Brian.  You're doing what I've only talked about!  OK, I did meet for the 1st time with Brian Schulman from Lancaster last week, and we talked about doing a mini bloggers connect.  Good job!

Brian - I think that is great you got together with other rainers.  If I ever come up your way anytime soon I would love to meet you as well.  And if you ever decide to come down to the beach let me know!  Most of the tourists are gone now that school is back in.

Goodness, I am late to this one!  Thank you for posting the photos.  I hope you'll email them to me, as well.  I've been so busy since then, I have barely uploaded the photos from my own camera, and the only one of our outing before my battery died was you before the other ladies arrived.  'Had a great time, and discovered a new favorite restaurant, all in one outing.  Thanks for posting this, Brian!

MARGARET:  You are welcome.  It was great to meet last week.  I will certainly e-mail the photos to you, Cindy, and Patricia directly.  I'm glad you liked the restaurant -- I'd been there twice before and liked their food and thought it would be a good place for us to meet.

Brian & Patricia in the same room having lunch?!?!  You are two of my most favorite people on AR!  How fun.  If ever you feel the need to look really smart, feel free to invite me along for a future AR get together.  :-)  I had no idea Patricia had written a book.  Brian, would love to see you write one on the humorous side of the legal issues in real estate!

NATALIE:  We had a lovely lunch about 2 months ago.  Thanks for the compliments.  If you're willing to make the drive this way, or we could meet halfway, I'd be happy to meet up with you.  I'm still reading through Patricia's book -- should have finished it already, but I got distracted.  Maybe I will write one some day.
