The Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index detailed the attributes of the happiest man on earth. The New York Times asked the Gallup organization to prepare a "statistical composite" for the happiest person in the United States. Then the NYT searched for the happiest man on earth and they found him!

Alvin K. Wong, 69, said that his mother, Honolulu-born Sun Lin Wong, instilled the keys to happiness in him from a very young age. He quoted her words of advice to him: "Don't just do things for money. Do what makes you want to get up in the morning. Do what makes you happy."

A man with his arm around his wife's shoulders. Some of his own advice? "Surround yourself with young people. They give you energy and have a different view than old folks." "Don't get stuck. Embrace change." "Have a sense of humor - especially about yourself. If you can't laugh at yourself, then you're going to have a hard life." "Surround yourself with friends." "You're never too old to learn." "Religion is very important. It grounds you. It makes you humble." "It's important to be comfortable but money doesn't make you happy. Look at all of the rich celebrities who are in trouble. They have all the money in the world and they are not happy." "Family is the core. It's everything. In tough times you can fall back on them like it's comfort food."

Alvin's last piece of advice? "When life throws you guavas, you make guava juice."

So now we know for sure - the happiest man on earth (Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index) is not in Buckhead Atlanta GA - B U T - W A I T!

Surroung yourself with young people, is great advice. I think those secluded retirement places accelerate old age, as there is no contrast to draw from in one's daily life. Just my opinion.
