How often do you 'Google' yourself or your company name? If you haven't checked for a while, here's your friendly reminder to take a few moments to do so. Who knows what you'll find!
I try to make it a habit to check on a monthly basis, but as life gets in the way, that doesn't always happen. In the past when I've checked, of course my website comes up as well as all of the social media sites that I belong to. Many times I'll even come across articles that I've written for REALTOR® Magazine that have been posted by REALTORS® across the U.S. and Canada on their sites and blogs (with permission of course). Some of my articles have even been picked up by the International Business Times. You can imagine my shock the first time that happened!
Having a few spare minutes the other day, I decided to sit down and have another look see. I got a pleasant surprise when I searched my name. It showed up on Marylhurst University's website which is a university just outside of Portland, Oregon. I was wondering why the heck my name would show up on their site; I've never taken any courses there, so off I went to check it out.
It turns out that Marylhurst offers online courses for an MBA or Bachelor Degree in real estate studies. Okay, so now my curiousity was really peaked. I started reading through to find out where I fit into all of this. On the page linked to my name, I saw this: "the following resources are incredibly useful...". Hmmmm, the plot thickens.
I skimmed through quickly and on first look, I missed it. After going through it again, I noticed a heading called 'Study Guides'. Under this was the subheading 'Home Staging'. Next to that subheading were the words 'Charlene Storozuk offers insight on the benefits of home staging'.
Excitedly, I clicked on the link wondering what the heck I would find. It brought me to an article I wrote last year for the Women's Council of REALTORS®. It was an article about adding home staging consultations to your listing package and how they are a value-added service and set you apart from others. I have to say that it made my day. Not only am I getting some free publicity, but hopefully it will help to educate the new generation of REALTORS® about the benefits of home staging. How cool is that!
So, enough about me. How often do you 'Google' your name? Have you checked lately? If not, why don't you have a look right now. Stop back here afterwards and let me know what you find. I can't wait to hear. How fun is this!
