You never know what someone else might or might not know, so if you think they might benefit from the information, please, tell them anyway.
Point in fact, a very diligent lady I know is trying desperately to save her home. I have never seen anyone be so persistent, so patient, so focused on the task of repeatedly calling the bank (BofA, wouldn't you know?), talking with them endlessly and doing everything they say, sending everything they request over and over in the hopes of saving her home for her family. As you can guess, this process has been going on for many, many months. As soon as she gets rejected, she tries another tactic.
During this time, she's always faithfully sent me articles about the ups and downs of the real estate market. As a Realtor(R) I get dozens of similar articles form the associations and everything else I subscribe to, but the articles she sends are more from a consumer point of view. As a result they have a slightly different focus. I tell you all this to demonstrate how very thorough this lady is, and what an excellent researcher she is.
So, this weekend as I was reading my Sunday paper, I noticed an article about BofA starting to provide additional help to military families who are having trouble paying their mortgages. My first thought was of Katie (name changed) and how this sounded like it might be a fix for her situation. My second thought was-- she probably already knows about it. Five minutes later my 3rd thought was, what if she doesn't? So I jumped up, grabbed the article, clipped it, scanned it and sent it right over, and as it turns out, it might be just the ticket to help her. In fact, the program is so new that when she called, they weren't even that familiar with it.
The lesson learned for me was-- don't second guess, just send potential help to those who might need it. This episode actually made me think of all the health-and-safety-type emails I get and how perhaps some of those senders thought for a brief moment that the rest of us probably already knew about whatever topic they were sending... but then again, maybe not. So they sent it anyway. And if I already know it, I can send it along to others.
If we can help save a life, save a house, help a person, it's sure worth trying.
