Courthouse Dogs

Today I was listening to Wheel of Fortune on tv  and heard about a highly trained dog, Ellie, the first dog trained to assist individuals in the courtroom.  Since 2003 these Courthouse Dogs have provided comfort to sexually abused children during forensic interviews and court testimony.

What an amazing thought.  I guess it really isn't that novel.  We have had seeing eye dogs for several years.  And there are dogs who lift the spirit of the terminally ill and others in the hospital.  So a natural extension would be to have dogs help calm people in the often high stress situations in the courtroom and during testimony.

It occurred to me that maybe we need Realtor dogs who can help soothe the frustrations that we all know occur in real estate transactions!

Ann, What a great idea!  And Golden's would be ideal!

Ann, what a great idea--using a calming dog to work with potential Buyers and Sellers.

I actually have TWO Goldens who greet new clients at the door because I work out of my home mostly. Other than an occasional "crotch sniff" (how do you deal with that??) they make a great first impression.

On another note: I think the service dogs used for those who have seizures is really REMARKABLE. There is a chemical change in the body that they detect before it happens and can warn either the owner or family before it happens. Dogs are the BEST.

Always.

Ann,  What a great idea.  I'm a retired court reporter, but I've never heard of this before.  Makes perfect sense though.  I love the idea!

That's such a great idea (both in the courthouse and in real estate), Ann. Everyone would be so enthralled-especially if it was a puppy--that they wouldn't have a problem with anything at closing :)
