Oh, That Fat Tastes So Good!

By
Real Estate Agent with Century 21 Moline Realty 40022101

I'll start with my excuse, because this whole eating right thing is very difficult for me.

I have been sick lately.  I came down with a cold, and so I have treated myself to some things that I probably shouldn't have, like big bowls of baked potato soup, spinach and artichoke dip, etc.

Yesterday I was starving.  I decided to run over to Subway to get a sandwich.  I hopped in my car and started on my way.  On the way I was thinking about skipping the cheese, maybe getting a grilled chicken sub.  No dressing...

As I pulled up to Subway, I noticed that lovely DQ sign right along Highway 65.   My first thought?  'Mmmmmmmmmm.... buffalo chicken strip basket.....'

Then I thought "Joslyn, get it together.  That chicken strip basket on it's own, without the buffalo sauce, has 22 grams of fat."  (Yes, this is true.  I looked at the nutritional guide last time I made that mistake!)

Then I began to think about my last trip to Subway.  I couldn't believe how all the sandwiches I like there have about the same amount of fat.  (Leave it to me to pick the fatty stuff!)

Then that self-pity started in, saying "But I don't feel good, and it would taste so good... don't I deserve to have something like that every now and then?"

Honestly, if there really were little men who sat on your shoulders, I would have to grab mine and strangle him to death.

Ten minutes later I returned to the office with a chicken strip basket.  It did taste VERY good.  Sinfully good.

However, my stomach really didn't think so.  It made all kinds of weird noises, and the only thing I can figure out is that it isn't used to that much fat anymore.  So that should be a good sign, right?

Next time I'm going to Subway.

Joslyn -- I am entering my 21st day of fasting and believe you me the first day or two are tough, however, the key to it is MINDSET and Believing it can be done.  Now I am at the point where I have to force myself to eat.  My metabolism still runs pretty high and I have always been a grazer.

You can do it but you have to really believe that you can.

Jim --way to go!

Jim - I think after a few days it really gets easier and easier.  Then, pretty soon, you can't eat more, no matter how badly you want to.  Hang in there!

Naoma - Those Dannon smoothies are the best!  I bought a 100 calorie pack for in the office, too.  Hopefully I can stick to it!

Aziz - I've never been a grazer - lol.  I was anorexic when I was younger, and I was even bad at that.  My binges were insane!

I once lowered my carb intake drastically--meaning I didn't have the seven or so bars of chocolate I used to daily. I later had three and felt like I was whirling...So the body can adapt to less and more!

Come on girl you can do it!!!  I know you can!  Go buy yourself an outfit that you want to possibly fit into.  Even if it is just a pair of jeans and hang it up where you can see it everyday.  We gotta find the key!   I know you can beStrong !

I have a pair of size eights, and I had them hanging in my living room.  Unfortunately, I was expecting guests, so they ended up put away, and I didn't bring them back out.

Perhaps I should.

Aziz - I'm working on it.  Other than shoving my face this weekend, I'm doing okay.

I have to learn to get through the weekends without overeating.

I have come to the conclustion that if it taste good its bad for you...lol.....Once you don't eat anything fried for a while it usually does not taste good and your tummy doesn't like it. I know that one day my husband and kids wanted McDonalds. It had been a while since I had a french fry and I soooo wanted one so I took one from my husband and I started to eat it..All I tasted was the grease! I spit it out!! So do not fill bad and sometimes it is good to cheat for 2 reasons. 1. It will help you kick start your body again..2. It makes your tummy so upset that you won't want to eat it again! LOL...

Tracy - I know.  It's like I have a good guy on one shoulder and a bad guy on the other! They don't make it easy on me!

Carla - That's what I'm hoping for!  My ultimate goal would be that I CAN'T eat it anymore.... lol

You name it, I've tried it.  But I still will not give up.  SOMEBODY HELP ME, PLEASE! I want to lose weight but I am having a problem with giving up on the stuff I like to eat.  Why must I suffer is always singing in the back of my head, my mouth, my eyes, my arm and hand that all tell me to lift the fork and make sure there is something on the end of it that I like to eat!  And can I blame that on Real Estate.... sure!

Rosemary - I'm the same way.  As easy as it is to talk big, and try to be motivational, and swear you are going to only eat THIS MUCH, I still keep going overboard!

Perhaps the AR Biggest Loser Group needs a contest.  How to track it, though?

I am reading your post while I am eating a bag of candy corn! I LOVE candy corn even though my stomach is saying no more and mouth wants something other than sugar, I can't stop. It's too good. My only justification is I went to the gym this morning. I guess I have to go again tomorrow..

Don't worry we all have those days!

We all have days where we just want something thats not good for you.   It's never bad to have a little just don't go overboard.   I used to be really bad about not eating anything bad.  I was so bad that if I had already worked out that day and I decided to reward myself with some ice cream, or well something that would fall outside a good diet.   I would have to then go run, or ride the bike or something to burn off the garbage.  Anyways get better, and next time get what you think you should get!!!

Tara - I can completely relate.  Although my guilty pleasure lately isn't sugary, but most people think I'm nuts - pepperoncini's.  I will sit and eat those peppers for dessert at night.  Nutso, I tell ya!

Rick - Hopefully I'll get myself trained eventually!  Thank you!

Was it transfat?  Your body really doesn't like that if you haven't eaten that in a while.

Joslyn,

Temptation is all around us....and we all stray at times.  I look at life as lesson I am learning...in your case you have grown (not literally) to know Subway next time.

We have bigger (no pun) fish to fry....all the holiday baking that we'll be exposed to.....I'm a goner until New Year's Day and ....WHEW, 2008's resolution......YIPPEE!!!!

Nancy - I don't know.  Don't ask, don't tell as far as I'm concerned!  LOL!

Dan - Mmmm...... fried fish......

I know, here comes the "hard times", where we have to avoid eating good.  What's really going to be hard is that we are having a regional office potluck on Monday, a Mora office potluck on Tuesday, then Thanksgiving at my parents, and we are doing the same thing next month.  Two potlucks = too much!

Tara,

I thought I was the only one with Candy Corn issues!  It is truly one of my "trigger foods"  Thank heavens that Halloween is over!  I couldn't stand seeing it everywhere.  I also have issues with Goldfish crackers!  Maybe it has something to do with small yellow things - hmm!

Joslyn,

Whenever I start to slip a little, I go back to tracking everything!  I was obsessive about it when I was loosing weight - everything went into an excel spreadsheet - every calorie, carb, protein and fat gram.  When the scale starts to move back up a little (like now), I go back to it.  If I know I have already consumed 500 calories and its only noon, I find it much easier to make good choices!
