Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials announced a free electronics waste recycling day will be  March 26  for residents of Sun City West, Sun City and the surrounding area.

The event will run from from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Sundome, 19403 R.H. Johnson Blvd., Sun City West.

ADEQ officials said the state agency and its partners — the Property Owners and Residents Association, Recreation Centers of Sun City West and the recycling company E-Waste Harvesters of Phoenix — anticipate collecting tons of unwanted televisions, computer equipment, monitors, batteries, chargers, cell phones, VCRs, CD and DVD players, printers, small appliances, fax machines, stereos, cables and cords.

More than 22 tons of discarded electronics were turned in at ADEQ’s first event in Sun City West in January 2010.

Companies and individuals donating e-waste will receive a certificate of disposal for their records from E-Waste Harvesters if they want the document. E-Waste Harvesters will erase all hard drives with state of the art software and the company recycles all materials in accordance with state and federal regulations, according to ADEQ.

ADEQ has sponsored 35 events since August 2009 throughout the state and collected 827,342 pounds of material.
