September 30th marks the 153rd Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of 1854, which settled various disputes left from earlier treaties in 1837 and 1842 and established the Bad River, Lac Courte Oreilles, Red Cliff, and Lac du Flambeau reservations.  The treaty was signed at LaPointe, Wisconsin.

On September 27th, there was a presentation and panel discussion held at the Madeline Island Museum to open this weekend's celebration, with the topic being "The Contemporary Significance of Madeline Island to the Ojibwe".

There will be an Open House for members of the Ojibwe tribe at the Madeline Island Museum on Saturday, September 29 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to mark this historic event.

The Open House will include an exhibit provided by the Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission on Natural Resource Management and U.S.-Ojibwe treaties.
