One of the most famous historic neighborhoods of Tucson real estate is Winterhaven. Every Christmas season this community erupts with lights and decorations to mark the holiday season with the Winterhaven Festival of Lights. Children of all ages walk, ride in vehicles or take hay rides through the neighborhood to enjoy the magic before their eyes. The ooo's and ahh's that are expressed from the mouths of babes make trip more meaningful for parents, grandparents and friends who take children to this wondrous neighborhood. Every year Winterhaven is on the news. With the cut backs do to the economy many local supporters helped members of Winterhaven with traffic control that is always becomes congested at dusk as the sun sets and this wonderland lights up.
Developed after WW II, most of the homes of significance within Winterhaven were constructed from 1949 through 1961. The ranch style architecture of the time adorns the neighborhood. Nearly all the homes are brick with well nourished lawns and large shady trees. What is unique in this neighborhood are the 3 water wells that serve it. No city water is used in this community. This accounts for the lush lawns that many of the homes have. The wider than average streets makes it easy for thousands of vehicles to visit this neighborhood every December.
Many of the inhabitants of Winterhaven live there because the want to be a part of this wonderful neighborhood. Some have waited years for the right house to come on the market. I remember selling one home that the original owner only sold the home to my client because she felt he was right for the neighborhood and for her loving home of many decades. Usually there aren't many homes to choose from in this neighborhood. Since those who do buy, tend to stay for a long time.
