Olympia Isthmus Land Auction This Morning - What's Next?

By
Industry Observer

Olympia isthmus land is being auctioned off this morning after years of contentious battles over its use.  The developer who owned it planned for multistory buildings that would provide some market rate housing at a primo downtown location.  Community groups protested the potential building heights, concerned about blocking views of Budd Inlet from the capitol.  Seems like everyone in town had an opinion - & usually a strongly held one at that!  The dispute spilled over into city council votes to set or change building height standards - some council members were voted out in the last election.  Did I mention that emotions ran a bit high over the future of this land?

Well, this morning's auction will be the next episode in the saga - and it will be very interesting to see if it sells, to who, what their plans are, how successful those plans are - and will the contentious debate over this Olympia isthmus land continue or come to an end??

Stay tuned...

Nancy, Have you heard any outcome of the auction?

This sort of stuff is hard for those that live the closest to the changes, and often times local roads cannot handle more developement, which we see here a lot.

All the best with this.

Hi Gloria - well the update is a bit of an anticlimax - the developer who owns the property filed bankruptcy the morning of the auction which put a hold on the sale.  So - not really sure what'll happen next or how quickly!
