Open House Warning - Keep your Prescription Drugs Safe - and those of your Customers

By
Real Estate Agent with Sun Realty USA, Inc.

My Board of Real Estate sent me a message today warning of scams at Open Houses.

Apparently, people now pose as buyers and visit Open Houses to steal prescription drugs.  All agents should advise their customers to clean out their medicine cabinets and hide their prescription drugs before an Open House.

An agents reported finding a customer opening a drawer at an Open House who quickly closed it when observed and left.  She took his car registration number and reported the incidence to the police.  When interviewed he admitted to having been looking for pain killers and he learned the trick of Open Houses from someone in his drug rehab program.

Treat your medicines with great care – they are expensive, anyway.

The police also advises:

Before you throw out any pill bottles, take off the label and shred it.  Addicts sift through your garbage to find out what drugs you keep in the house.
