New Hampshire might reduce the taxes on a pack of cigarettes. A few other states might do the same. I do not smoke, but was astounded to read that in Massachusetts, a pack goes for over 7 bucks. Read on. One of the reasons it costs so darn much is the state tax on a pack in old Mass. is $2.51.

Who do the lawmakers of a state like Massachusetts think they are, our mothers? When they enact these high taxes, do they feel they are helping the citizens make better choices, or do they just hate smokers? Probably more to the point, do they just want to tax anything that moves and along the way remove yet some more freedom from the citizens of their state?

Once again, I do not smoke, but it is still legal to smoke in this country. At some point, will our elected idiots come after me? Will they implement some huge tax on something that I do, just because they see me as a sitting duck? I would submit that some of the more socialist minded elected fools have already run a focus group on raising taxes on just about every imaginable thing you can think of. They, and their ilk, are just waiting for enough people to hate the activity or item enough, in order for them to spring the new tax on us.

As voters, it is time for us to demand the repeal of many of these taxes on our freedoms.

Illinois has one of the highest cigarette taxes in the country too! I believe Illinois just passed a $1.00 increase to make it $1.98 per pack. We was 32nd in the nation at .98 cents per pack.

Since, they have no ideas on how to cut spending they can only agree on ways to raise taxes!

If I was a poor person that smoked, I would vote these crazy liberals out of office!

Maybe one day these poor smokers will wake up to the fact that they are being kept poor by electing those who say they are for the poor, and then raise taxes on everything they do!

Kevin - These inequities across the state boundaries are why there should be a national tax policy that helps all Americans across the board while not favoring one state. If we are one nation, perhaps we should start acting like one that is so basic to our survival.

Remember the Tea Tax in Boston a few years back - those were the days of true patriotism in New England
