Scenic Gulf Island photo

This morning, at Barb's Buns/Bakery, there was a live remote show of the much-loved CBC Radio 1 show, North by Northwest.    From 6 to 9 a.m., it was a terrific moment...musicians, poets, writers, performers...the wonderful eclectic mix that is special Salt Spring Island!

Missed it?   Catch the podcasts of interviews with the so talented Islanders at the North by Northwest website...should be up by Monday.    Googe CBC radio, and look for that link.    A fun experience!

Too short a time to speak with everyone, and lots of talented beings visible in the "audience".

There is a magic to life on Salt Spring, in spite of normal ups and downs to do with personal and economic lives...the Island is certainly not immune from global issues, at all.    It's not an escape, but it is a retreat.   Something quite different!

I often think of Salt Spring as an "incubator" place...the creative verve that can model aspects to the "other" world.

Islands are borderless spaces and Islanders have the opportunity, then, to exercise their self-sufficient and entrepreneurial and creative natures....ah, interesting to see what that will mean!

Meantime...catch the podcast on the radio show's website (google CBC Radio, and look for the link to North by Northwest show.

Enjoy!

Li, Sounds just lovely.  My husband grew up on an island, here in the states.  Martha's Vineyard. We owned a home there, for about ten years.  It was very special to us and our children.

It was really impressive, Gary, to see everyone gathered in one place...easy to forget just how much talent "lives here".   Appreciated your comment.

Hi, Frances...so appreciated your comment.    Actually, a bit tongue in cheek, some people call Salt Spring "Martha's Vineyard of the West"!
