I spent part of today on the Huron River fishing between the dam at MossLake and down to Wixom Rd. There were a few hikers, three canoes, and a kayak on the same stretch of river. I prefer fishing the Huron in early fall just because there is less pressure on the fish. In early spring when fish are planted, the river is wall-to-wall fishermen. Not too much fun, plus the raised trout are not as difficult to catch as the remainder of the year.Huron River near Burns Rd

No I didn't catch any fish, I had three small fish follow the streamer, but no hits. Still, part of the day on the Huron River is better than being in the office!

Please remember, trout season closes on the Huron River in Milford and Wixom Michigan on September 30th.

Our family vacation takes place every June for fly fishing in Grayling near Traverse City.  You've got some beautiful country up there.  Glad to hear you are taking the time to enjoy it.

Your post reminded me of growing up back in rural SD. My friends and I used to spend a whole day out fishing farmer's ponds for large mouth bass. We usually did well, however I'd go back there now and just being able to fish those ponds would be enough for me.

Even with no fish, it sounds like a good day!

Gary,

Great post. I love flyfishing. Last trip I went to Jackson Hole quite a while ago. Your post reminded me of just how much I miss the peace of the hunt. Thank you.

Amanda,  My wife's family has a place near Grayling. One of the top fishing rivers in Michigan!

Roy,  When I was growing up, I used to fish for minnows. I just like getting into the outdoors.

Jason, It was and I agree.

Mike,  The Huron River, does not compare! It was very peaceful and not many bugs.

Gary, I regularly fly fish the Huron further downstream, but for smallies, not trout. Great fishery! Don't forget that there are numerous trout streams open all year in Michigan and best of all we get Fall and Spring steelhead runs! Tight lines!!

Robert, Most sections of the Huron River are very productive. Can't wait for the fall salmon run!

Gary - I stopped by your little area of AR because I knew I likely missed a post with some beautiful Michigan pictures and information. I needed that tonight. You have an awesome way of describing some of the best and most tranquil parts of our state. Thank you!
