Read others in my Out & About series by clicking on Out & About. The Wine Institute, based in San Francisco, recently reported that sales of wine in the United States topped those in France for the first time ever. Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your perspective, per capita wine consumption for the United States, at 2.6 gallons, is far behind the French at 12.2 gallons. That's a gallon each month that those French drink! Of the 330 million cases of wine sold in the United States in 2010, fully 61% came from California vineyards, and here in San Diego, we're doing our part with over fifty wineries throughout the County, mostly in the area from Escondido to Ramona. However, there are vineyards and wineries closer to your Mission Valley condo, such as Rancho Bernardo and Old Town San Diego. I'm not a big wine connoisseur, but I do like a nice glass of white zinfandel with my Italian food. For the best list of vineyards and wineries in San Diego County, check San Diego Wine Country. Good evening, Jim. I had no idea that San Diego had wineries! Thanks for the info… and the great localism post!
California wines, nothing better. We are trying to gain a name in Texas but it just hasn't gain the reputation yet. Nice post for info!
Being so close to Napa and Sonoma, we like to think we have all the wineries in Northern California, but alas we dont! One can sip their way from end to end in California!
Hi Jim, What a great picture of the wine. I'm not a huge wine drinker either. I will take a margarita over a glass of wine anyday. Salt on the rim please!
I love wine and I love California wines best. Unfortunately, I can't drink enough to make up for the French ;)
I am a wine lover and I can attest to the good wines of California - and South America as well!
