Yesterday, it was looking a little overcast early morning which had changed to storms imminent by 10am and by 10.30 the start of our open house it was absolutely pouring with rain and we decided that no one would come out on a day like to day. We were wrong, 9 goups of people showed up in the next 45 mins and we had quite an umbrella collection at the front door. We thanked them all for taking time out to vistit us on such a wet and miserable Saturday morning. They all had the same response, "well we really want to buy a house so we came to see if this was the one!" So the moral is, if they really want to buy a house, they will come and have a look, no matter what the weather, and I know that I'd much rather be following up people who really want to buy a house than those that really don't.
Good way to separate the serious buyers form the lookers - have an open house on a day with inclement weather.

Sounds like a bunch of Serious Buyers came to your Open House. I hope that you are able to pick up some potential Sellers and Buyers from these Attendees, and maybe even Sell the Subject Property.
I'm having 3 Opens at the end of the month. I hope they are as successful as yours.
I sold a house during a hurricane about 12-13 years ago, Geoff. They only had 2 days in the area and had to be back to work so, you're right, when they want to buy......
PS I'm still very good friends with this couple and they have bought and sold several homes since then.
Geoff, this is true - serious buyers will venture out in spite of any weather condition.
