Do you know what a QR Code is?

Do you know what a QR Code is? The "QR" is an abbreviation for "Quick Response". Are you familiar with its history? The odds are that you have heard of it. If you are like me, more than likely you have seen it and did not think much of it. Well let me give you the history of it here:

1991 the Swiss Magazine Antrazit publishes an article about a new invention which will simplify putting your website onto Mobile Phones. They claim this can be done in less than five minutes. It is like child's play and the best part is that it is free. They claim that the Time is ripe for the mobile Internet.

1994 a two -dimensional bar code is created by a Japanese corporation (Denso Wave) for the logistical purpose of marking and tracking various building parts such as automotive parts and various other components.

October 1997 The standardization of QR Codes are accepted internationally, ensuring the acceptance of it domestically as well as internationally.

January 1999 QR Codes are approved as the Japanese Industrial standards

June 2000 QR Codes are approved as ISO international standard

An interesting aspect of the QR Code is the fact that the specification of QR Code is disclosed and that the patent right owned by Denso Wave is not exercised.

October 2009 Google celebrates the 57th anniversary of the first bar code patent

November 2010 Brad Andersohn (Zillow Outreach Manager) writes a Step by Step "how to create your own customize QR Code on Active Rain.

January 2011 The Business Times is letting readers instantly browse relevant material online using QE Codes printed in the paper.

March 2011 Beverly Hills Realtor Endre Barath, Jr. creates his Customized QR Code on Active Rain.

Endre--Had no idea of the history.  Like most of the others, I thought QR codes were very recent.  I have started using them on my listings---more to show off how smart and tech savvy I am than anything else----and I am not either one!!

Endre - I like you r QR Code it is a little more attractive than the simple black square type ..... having played around with QR codes for a while now I think they are being used excessively by some but that is OK by me because it helps to heighten the interest and expand the knowledge of the consumer
