Back in 2008, and then again in 2010, my other half did all the bankruptcy legal work for two of our married friends. The purpose was to get rid of all their unsecured debt but keep their homes. Both bankruptcies were successfully discharged and they kept not only their homes, which were average California homes, but their cars and many personal belongings since they really weren’t living extravagantly. The days after their bankruptcies were discharged brought dozens of offers for bank loans, credit cards, new car loans, etc. It’s an interesting system.
