As I was driving through the small town of Haralson in Coweta County Georgia, I noticed a lot of commotion in the usually sleepy hamlet.
There were semi-trucks and trailers parked everywhere, and construction workers crawling all over the place like ants. My brain spontaneously and correctly indentified the cause of all of the ruckus:
Movie!
The idea of movies being shot on location in Coweta County is nothing new. Scenes from “Fried Green Tomatoes” and “Zombieland” are among some of the notable films.
However, in 2011 there have already been FOUR feature films that have utilized Newnan and some surrounding Coweta County towns for shooting locations.
“Joyful Noise” starring Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” starring Jennifer Garner and Ron Livingston, “Mississippi Wild” starring Dakota Fanning and Robert Duvall” have all done location shooting this year in our county.
But the production set that I stumbled upon was for “The Wettest County in the World,” affectionately known in these parts as the "Shia LaBeouf" film. According to my female counterparts here, that is somebody that I should know about! (But don't)
So if you are shooting a movie and need pristine and authentic period locations combined with cooperative and appreciative governmental agencies, please check out Coweta County Georgia.
The new Hollywood of the South!
