Biden & family                       Antique Men's waiting roomIf you have been following this blog, you know that I have been involved with the Friends of the Furness Railroad District in Wilmington. We have been in a planning mode for months, and finally had a ribbon cutting Saturday for our permanent educational exhibit "Wilmington's Railroad Heritage". Mary Anne Eves, J. Harry Feldman, and I, who did the major work producing the exhibit were honored to received silver engraved framed pictures of the completed exhibit by our President, Jim Tevebaugh. Funders behind the production of the exhibit included NARF (North American Railway Foundation) and the Delaware Humanities Forum.

But before we did our ribbon cutting, an invitation only event in the Antique Men's Waiting Room on the upper track level was the scene of a ceremony re-naming the train station the Joseph R. Biden Jr. Railroad Station, in honor of his over 7000 hours commuting from this station over his tenure in the U.S. Senate. During that time, the train staff became family to Biden, and they often learned of events before his own family did. He had yearly picnics at his home for hundreds of these loyal friends and their families.

Seen above is Vice Presiden Biden and his family at the dedication of a plaque for the station honoring him, and the Men's Antique Waiting Room after the ceremony.
