Part 5, Paying It Forward - An Opportunity to Change Lives

Volunteering gives you an opportunity to change lives, including your own. The Women Build volunteers for Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity are having a blast helping build a house for the Blevins family.

The two volunteer groups spent their Spring break volunteering last week for the Almost Heaven Habitat for Humanity Women Build house in White Sulphur Springs were Cardinal Stritch University and Hamilton College. They helped to install windows and roofing, framed in the bathtub and attic access hatch, and set the stage to hang siding.

Saturday, March 19, the roof was officially completed. With five other volunteers, I was on the roof hammering the last few rows of shingles. It was a laborious job...I tore a hole in my sweatpants as I dragged myself across on the shingles, but it was a fun and sunny day to be on the roof. Volunteers started work on the house wrap and the front porch. Windows are in and the exterior doors are set.

The below slide presentation shows women at work...changing lives!

Saturday was Laura Blevins’ birthday, the future homeowner of the Women Build house. Laura was surprised with a birthday party..... and what better way to celebrate then investing in her and her children's future.

This week, volunteers will be working on exterior siding and soffitt, as well as other exterior finishes. The rough-in electric and rough-in plumbing will start this week as well.

Volunteering is working on behalf of others and gives you an opportunity to change lives, including your own. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome. Women Build Project hours on site are 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Saturday.

Thanks for the pictures / slide presentations. It must be fun to spend time on building homes with some women friends. Luncheons are good but sweating, "working out", and participating on a project like this sounds very good too.
