One of the many reasons that Autumn/Fall is my favorite season of the year is because the Harvest Moon (or full moon) seems to be so much more awesome in September and October. According to Wikipedia the Harvest Moon can come before or after the autumnal equinox.
Of course every moon is really the same but every season of the year has it's own name for the moon. Long before the modern calendar people named the full moons of a year to keep track of time.
From the "Farmer's Almanac" (these are the names given to each month's moon):
- January: Wolf Moon
- February: Snow Moon
- March: Worm Moon
- April: Pink Moon
- May: Flower Moon
- June: Strawberry Moon
- July: Buck Moon
- August: Sturgeon Moon
- September: Harvest Moon
- October: Hunter's Moon
- November: Beaver Moon
- December: Cold Moon
Then there's the blue moon which is during a month that has two full moons....which happens once in a blue moon!
