When planning for the future, it is very important to have a “vision” of where we want to ultimately be in life. Unlike our “mission” which primarily defines our day-to-day operations, our “vision” is a long tern and far reaching goal.
Although many companies put both their mission and vision statements in their business plan, they are seldom revisited and rarely updated.
However, in an ever changing business climate and after adaptation to unforeseen circumstances, the true vision may in actual practice vary dramatically from the printed word.
It is important to know where we want to be five, ten, or even twenty years from now. If our vision becomes obscured, we don’t know where we are going.
And we risk losing our way!

Very true. I think sometimes we get so focused on what is around the next curve that we forget what is at the end of the road.
We need to look back to where we have been, look at oneself now and see where we are at and then gaze into the future and ask .. what do we want that picture to look like? Very thoughtful post to make us revisit our plans, update and look to where our dreams and new outlook should be aiming towards. All the best for a wonderful week!
I love that picture...and I agree with you...we need a plan always...without one, how do we know where we have been or are going? Have a great week!
Gary...
That's a Great way to put it. Thanks so much.
Connie...
It's hard to visualize at times, and goodness know it's changed over the last few years. I hope that you have a great week too my friend.
Kristin...
Would you believe NO PhotoShopping? I do have my secrets. lol and thanks.
WOW! It is 8:21 a.m. right now in Texas....and this is too deep for this woman so early this morning!
What's funny Richard is the top level vision statements are never reiterated to the lower level troops over and over again in their daily work and usually are just something framed and stuck on the wall.
As you often do Richard, you make us think about our business plan, our goals, and ourselves in your posts. Well done again my friend.
I luv reading mission statements.
Some are so far from what they are achieving currently I have to laugh.
If your going to write one ,follow it
Enjoy the day
With this being the end of the first quarter now would be good time to revisit our mission and vision statements. They were written last year, right?
I've definitely learned first hand the drive a good future vision can give you. You do have to keep your eyes on the prize to get there.
Very True Richard. To many people think the mission and vision iare the same thing.
My vision for 20 years from now it to still be ALIVE!
Is it not again...what you needed to know you learned in Kindergarden...like what you want to be when you grow up, not just who you will sit next to at lunch.
