It is all about time management...

My three year old son was recently posed with the question, "What is your Daddy's favorite thing to do?". His response, "Work on the computer." When I read this, it was like I had been kicked in the stomach because nothing could have been farther from the truth. My favorite thing by far is to play with my son.

Have I really gotten so far out of whack that this is not apparent to him and others. In truth, I have a little bit. I do a lot of my research and internet stuff at night, and since I have had great success with it, I have found myself doing it more and more BEFORE he goes to bed.

The sneaky thing is I didn't even notice it. I could blame it on a bunch of things, but the simple truth is that I was wrapped up in what I wanted. There are times that God will do for us, what we will not do for ourselves. This time, I got daylight savings. As a result, Trey and I are outside in the yard playing almost right up to bedtime. I do my internet stuff AFTER he goes to bed.

I had the same sort of "aha" moment about 3 or 4 years ago John. I resolved never to be on the computer while the kids were home. Work is work, and shouldn't interfere with my first and most important job, which is being a father to my children. 5 years from now, the internet will still be available to me, but my kids will be living on their own by then. I wouldn't want to be filled with regret then.

I'm sure my kids would say the same thing, especially since our home computer has gone into "slower than dirt" mode. I try to do my work early in the morning while the kids are eating or watching TV. As our day progresses, the computer is off limits unless it is a real estate call. Good for you making the kids first! :)
